As you may have noticed, our 4th anniversary was Nov 6 (a Friday) – and we both worked that day … we did, however, both have Sunday off together …which we spent doing our favorite things….
lie around the house drinking coffee and watching a movie … then bed-shopping …. then Malibu at sunset … then dinner with the Schuberts for Joe’s bday (which also happens to be Nov 6)…
The weekend before, Andrew had gone to this same beach around the same time of day with Michael and Christina … and …

Amy loves the 60′s. She loves the music, loves to watch television shows that take place in that decade, loves the fashion, loves that Americans were fighting for change and for peace. Ok, well she doesn’t love all the psychedelic music, but she knows just about every girl group song that ever was. I can’t wait to build a time machine and take her back to the land of Mad Men & American Dreams & The Wonder Years. It’s one of my favorite things about Amy, that she genuinely would …

Andrew and I have an anniversary tradition.
Our first anniversary (2006), we took a weekend trip to the Grand Canyon. Andrew had never been and I loved the idea of a weekend away (read: NOT visiting friends/family like we usually do). Lots of fun pictures, and I got to use my (then) new tripod.
Sometime between our first anniversary and our second, when Andrew was still working at the frame shop, a woman came in with a collection of 20-some photobooth strips to frame.
For the last 20+ years she and her husband …

Sometimes I have these really great and frustrating dreams about records imaginary, real and out-of-print. Usually in these dreams I’m in some record store or yardsale and I come across some treasures (say it like the character in Oh Brother Where Art Thou….”Trayzhere”) then I have to wake up and find that I did not track down those records and I’m not holding them in my hands. What a bummer. I’ve always dreamt about things like this. It’s been records for years now, ever since I fell in love with …

I don’t often talk about other people than myself on this blog. But today is about my wife. Amy. She’s hard to describe because I think she is completely unique and different than anyone I know. She’s even a lot different from me…..I mean to say that she has everything that I lack and more. We’ve been married for 4 years (and 1 day by the time you read this post. If you read it after Nov. 7th 2009 then I will have no idea where our marriage is, but …

Beat Up Trucks and Homemade Skateboards
(by Andrew Schubert and Mat Weddle)
California Fall spread her leaves all on the ground
All of my longings painted yellow, red and brown
Learning how to surf, building stuff with Legos
Cowboy hats and smiles, apple cider and green burritos
Taking the train to Burbank, driving on the shore
Loving California, beat up trucks and homemade skateboards
Oh, time moves on…
We’d spend all day together …

As I type this, we still have about 4 or 5 scary movies on our Netflix queue and at least 3 still in the house. Once we get started with this tradition, we just throw ourselves into it, I guess.
Plus, we missed 8-ish days of prime scary-movie-watching time because of a little thing called ‘international travel.’
Andrew’s already started our list for next year.
The thing we’ve noticed about scary movies this year is it seems like these characters/stories exist in an alternate universe where they have never seen a horror film …

Question. Amy and I have our 4-year marriage anniversary coming up on November 6th. What should we do? Any fun ideas? It’s on a Friday which means that Amy will be working for sure around 12:30 and I’ll probably have to work sometime that afternoon and definitely on Saturday.
So not too many plans for the actual day. But what do y’all think would be fun? I mean, if one of your suggestions gets enough positive comments/feedback/whatever, Amy and I will probably have to do it or we’ll risk being ridiculed …

Hi. I think a lot of the upcoming posts will be about our recent trip to Italy. This will probably be one of the few from my perspective, since Amy is better at writing and takes way better photos.
I didn’t really know what to expect from Italy. I don’t have a lot of experience with long distance vacations to foreign destinations. When I was a kid my family went camping every year in the same location. It was wonderful, real camping (bathing in the creek etc.) and I always looked …

Until I started school at the Conservatory of Recording Arts & Sciences on 6/11/07 I had always worked in retail during the holiday season. And it is brutal. When I worked at Michaels Arts & Crafts I started as a general stocker whatever type guy. Then I became the Receiver and I was in charge of the warehouse and the incoming shipments. We would begin to get Christmas and holiday merchandise in July I think. And our stockroom was just full upstairs and down with wreaths and trees and pinecones …

One of Andrew’s favorite things that we got from his great-grandfather is this record player and sound system.
He uses it every day without fail.
Andrew could tell you more about the specs, details, quality, etc.
All I can tell you is how happy Andrew was to play a record loudly on those speakers for the first time ….
(photos taken when we first picked it up and it was set up in the Schuberts’ living room)
This is a family inheritance that will, without a doubt, always be a part of our daily lives …

This year was my 10-year high school reunion.
I’m not really sure how that is possible. it couldn’t possibly be already 10 years since then.
And, you know, I went through elementary school, junior high AND high school with some of these people. … I don’t feel old enough to say I’ve known someone for almost 20 years … but it’s true.
{note: many of the photos below were “borrowed” from classmates posting on Facebook}
The reunion was …. weird. Half exactly-like-high-school with the same people doing the drinking and the partying and the …

These are some of the AMAZING pieces of jewelry I got from Andrew’s great-grandpa.
And these are the pieces that were left after everyone else went through it.
Honestly, I’m surprised there were any left at all.
I am so inspired to go scouring Goodwills and vintage/antique stores. I want to be like Linda that way. Or I just want Linda to go shopping for me…. either way.
Papa allowed me to go through the jewelry and also gave me a bunch of scarves – I’m totally gonna bring back the scarf.
Love it.
I love …

I think I might be confused about what it means to be a grownup. A lot of the time I don’t feel like a grown adult. I don’t feel that I have the same interests as people that consider themselves adults. I feel like I’m a responsible person, but I still believe in magic and romance and danger and doom. I think I just sometimes feel distanced from people because I don’t have an analytical mind and there are a lot of things my brain just doesn’t grab on to. …
