Last weekend in February

I woke up this morning and cursed the heavens.
I was supposed to do a super fun (Amy-styled) photo shoot with Angela. Wednesday night we looked at the forecast and there was an 80% chance of rain on Saturday.
Sad, but I needed to postpone the photo shoot.
It involved several factors that just would NOT work in the rain. Can’t tell you more just yet.
And then today, Saturday, I woke up and it was sunny! SUNNY!
It’s not supposed to be SUNNY! I canceled my photos!!!! Curses!
Luckily (or not, depending on your p.o.v.) …

I have been on my current sleeping schedule for almost 2 years – and I still cannot stay awake late at night.
Essentially, because my “day job” has me at work until 11p, including driving home and a bit of winding down, I do not get to bed until midnight at the earliest.
Every night.
For the last 2 years.
And yet, night after night around 9p or 10p I feel sleepy and tired and actually take a short nap on my lunch break.
True story. There are these armchairs in the lobby-area of our …

I forgot to tell y’all …

I’m down about 40lbs total from my peak.
Hell yes.
When I showed y’all my grand reveal a year ago, I was down 20 lbs. ….. and then 6 months after that I was down another 20.
I feel so much more healthy than I did 2 years ago….
Let’s compare:
#1 June 2008  ~170lbs
#2 Dec 2008  ~150lbs
#3 Oct 2009 ~130lbs

(you can click for larger versions if you like)
I know that last image isn’t the best to compare, but you get the idea …
40 pounds *sounds* like a lot, but it’s not really. Not on …

I have never really played organized sports (in a league, or set team or anything) but …..
I love sports movies
I love basketball
and I love LeBron James
We watched the documentary More Than a Game the other night – the movie  related to the LeBron James’ autobiography Shooting Stars.
So interesting. So great for the filmmakers how much early footage there is of LeBron and his team mates. So unbelievable how much early fame LeBron got. When he was in high school…
Of course, I cried.
I love that sports stories – sports stories like …

Goals and plans and intentions and a to-do list for 2010

Yesterday I revealed my One Little Word for 2010: RISK.
This year, in addition to thinking about putting myself out there a little more, I’m going to articulate some definite goals and plans to try to accomplish.
Not resolutions. That’s too hard.
But an ambitious to-do list I’m OK with.
I am not differentiating between things that I’m sure will happen and things that will only happen if I put my mind to it. I am choosing NOT to acknowledge which are realistic and which are wildly unrealistic. Just go with it …
Some are …

I pretty much love anything that Ali Edwards does. Her Studio A column in Creating Keepsakes was my absolute favorite every month, and I’m pretty sure I own all but the most recent of her books.
Every year for the last several she has been (publicly) choosing one word to focus on throughout the year. She uses this one little word to articulate her goals, intentions and plans for the coming year.
You can read more about her intentions behind her One Little Word here:
I thought a lot about [my word] and …

I feel like I’m a pretty good Los Angeles driver.  I’m not too aggressive or too passive.  I try my best to watch out for other drivers and I don’t freak out when someone jumps into my lane cutting me off, or honk unless I’m in actual physical danger.  Not just surprised, but actually in danger, you know, to let someone know that they are about to run into me.  I don’t honk if I get mad or frustrated.  I’ve been in 2 accidents, or traffic collisions as Police Constable …

So, for the past couple of weeks Amy and I have gone bed shopping.  We’ve never owned a new bed together.  Not since we’ve been married.  When Amy moved to Arizona our co-worker, Matt, gave her a hand-me-down kingsize bed.  I think it was a hand-me-down to him, which makes it doubly so for Amy.  And maybe triply so when Amy and I got married a few years later.  Well, anyway, this bed is old and not so awesome.  As we’ve been bed shopping, Amy kept talking about how we …

Anniversary Day at the beach

As you may have noticed, our 4th anniversary was Nov 6 (a Friday) – and we both worked that day … we did, however, both have Sunday off together …which we spent doing our favorite things….
lie around the house drinking coffee and watching a movie … then bed-shopping …. then Malibu at sunset … then dinner with the Schuberts for Joe’s bday (which also happens to be Nov 6)…
The weekend before, Andrew had gone to this same beach around the same time of day with Michael and Christina … and …

Amy loves the 60’s.  She loves the music, loves to watch television shows that take place in that decade, loves the fashion, loves that Americans were fighting for change and for peace.  Ok, well she doesn’t love all the psychedelic music, but she knows just about every girl group song that ever was.  I can’t wait to build a time machine and take her back to the land of Mad Men & American Dreams & The Wonder Years.  It’s one of my favorite things about Amy, that she genuinely would …

Photobooth Anniversary Tradition

Andrew and I have an anniversary tradition.
Our first anniversary (2006), we took a weekend trip to the Grand Canyon. Andrew had never been and I loved the idea of a weekend away (read: NOT visiting friends/family like we usually do). Lots of fun pictures, and I got to use my (then) new tripod.
Sometime between our first anniversary and our second, when Andrew was still working at the frame shop, a woman came in with a collection of 20-some photobooth strips to frame.
For the last 20+ years she and her husband …
