At the end of April, Andrew and I had a Sunday together ….

So, let’s take a minute to remember the GOOD THINGS going on….

I had all these grand plans to have a birthday/house-warming party on April 1 …. after we had been in the house for 3 weeks or so.

But alas, still no kitchen, which means boxes everywhere, which means no point in having a house-warming party.

So, instead we just got together with family….

Sunday afternoon Kaitlin&Joe and Kahla&Chris came up from Orange County and we all went to dinner at Don Cuco’s with Andy.

After dinner we went back to Andy and Julie’s for birthday cheesecake! I love cheesecake…

On my ACTUAL birthday (Monday) …. Andrew and I both had the day off with nothing specific planned. That pretty much never happens!

First order of business? Birthday breakfast!

I love going out to breakfast, and there’s this cute little cafe-type-restaurant near us that we decided to try for breakfast (having been there for lunch 10 years ago) – the Greenhouse Cafe.

Andrew’s mom and grandma met us there too …

After breakfast, Andrew and I pretty much spent the day running errands.

I hate running errands by myself, but I like getting things done.

First the library to get our new library cards!!! (I love the library)

These are new cards for the new library system with the City of Santa Clarita – when we went to sign up we were given the choice of several different designs and they’re all SUPER cheesy. Why would I want a library card with a photo of a skateboarder on it?

So, we picked these hilariously cheesy Mexican cowboy playing a guitar on a horse. Oh yea

After the library, a stop at Michael’s for some letter stickers, then to Sprouts for some groceries…. then home!

But once we got home I realized that that day was only time for about 2 weeks we would have a chance to go IKEA together to pick up bookshelves.

So, off we went to Burbank. In and out really quick since I knew EXACTLY what I wanted…

Then home (again) ….. And Andrew started painting the living room….

But I made him stop right away! Look at that awful color! That is NOT what it looks like inside Lowe’s … blech.

So, we left the house again for ANOTHER errand …. to Lowe’s to find a better color green.

This time we took the stirring stick with the UGLY paint on it to compare, took all the samples out into the sun and hoped for the best.

Once we got it home …. SO much better …

So Andrew painted the living room and I built a bookcase…. Such a busy birthday!

Once it got dark we relaxed a bit and watched Being Elmo before going to bed early ….

Because, honestly, I really love going to bed early and I never get to now since I get home around midnight.

Definitely a very happy birthday!

And while I am still sugar free, I bought myself a few boxes to save and savor for awhile.

Some things I love about Girl Scout cookies:

They’re seasonal, so it really is an EVENT when you get to buy them.

With paying clients and everything….

But recently he got a couple fun little *extras* from a client that he shared with me….

Chocolate cake with buttercream frosting …. YUM! You don’t want to know how much I ate in 2 days (knowing I was going to quit sugar that Monday).

Second: 2 tickets to see Ryan Adams at the Walt Disney Concert Hall.

We went mid-February on a Friday night – I had requested the day off work because that is the day we closed on our house. And luckily enough, it also happened to be the night we had tickets!

He played a solo acoustic set …. and I just loved being able to just sit in the dark and listen to music…. I can’t remember the last time I did that.

Third: a gift certificate for Sunday Supper at Lucques

Fancy dinner …. SO much fun – especially if someone else is paying …

Sunday Supper at Lucques is – you guessed it – every Sunday night…

The chef puts together a set menu based on what is fresh and in season that weekend at the Farmer’s Market…. Freshest ingredients lead to the best food….

I had been checking their website periodically to check out the menu. There was one other Sunday we were thinking about going, but the appetizer that night was avocado-based and that would have just been a waste with me…

This particular Sunday, however…. All deliciousness…

I actually branched out and tried their recommended cocktail … I don’t like alcohol at all, and I can taste it in any kind of fancy drink you want me to try …

But ‘the O word’ (described in the photo below) …. was surprisingly well mixed, and I genuinely liked it

We went on Oscar night …. so the menu was appropriately themed:

our salad/starter …. it got too dark for photos after that, but trust me. It was DELICIOUS.

We got one of each of the entrees…. and split them both.

Both fantastic. …. Oh my word, so good. I *think* I liked the lobster better …. but only just. The chicken + risotto was amazing too …

Cappuccinos to finish ….

… and then we went off to look for a studio space for Andrew. More on that later.

So, basically, if you happen to be in L.A. on a Sunday and have about $150 for dinner for 2 … GO TO LUCQUES.

SO good

You really have the best face.

Needless to say, he spends a lot of time awake, alone, watching movies in the living room.

But in the last few weeks, Andrew has been using his sleepless nights to work! Like a crazy person!

He’ll work his ‘day job’ from about noon til about 10p, and then once everyone leaves completely reset one of the rooms to set up for his personal clients….. They arrive at about midnight, record til 5a or so. Then he has to RE-reset the room back.

He’ll come home and sleep for about 4 hours, then go do the same thing again!

But he loves it …. And I love that he’s such a hard worker…Always so proud of him.

A few weeks ago, he started a little bit earlier on a Friday night so I stopped by after work to get some photos of him in action ….

Luckily for me, Jenae loves to go down to the studio to help him. Which means I get to stay home and sleep, and he has assistance so he’s not there even longer!
