3 y.o. in front of us in line, having a frightened meltdown in Haunted Mansion. In her mom’s arms, squirming crying, “put me down! put me down! put me down!” Once her mom put her down she turns and goes to RUN! To make a break for it! Unfortunately, for her, we (read: strangers) were standing right behind her parents and kept her blocked in.
All kinds of little girls dressed in their princess dresses.
A ~16yr old girl dressed in a Jasmine-from-Aladdin costume. While walking around with a group of her friends (in normal attire). What’s even more weird: Jasmine’s outfit is 2 pieces. This costume had a flesh colored midriff piece (you know, for modesty) …. this girl was clearly … some dark-skinned ethnicity, with a WHITE-as-white Jasmine-midriffed costume.
girl (~9 y.o.) who temporarily lost her family. Tears just beginning as she desperately looks in every direction around her … before she finally spots them, runs to catch up, and then gets scolded by her mother(?) – who probably wasn’t paying attn that her daughter was missing anyway.
Tom Delong – as previously mentioned.
lots of very pregnant women
older woman (60s?) dressed in a 1940s style navy uniform. Truly.
whole group of people in 1940s/gothic/? attire. Separately and together. Many of them had some kind of yellow/black symbol sewn as a patch onto their clothes.

reminder about the new series

beach towels drying over apartment-patio-ledges. I love the signs of summer.

Parking lot at Ralph’s – in which 95% of all the cars parked there are either a Lexus, BMW, or Mercedes-Benz. The other 5% are Toyota Priuses.

House for sale with its own website.

Realtor of said house with her face/ad on a sidewalk bench across the street from the house.

Because I love living in Los Angeles, and because many of my loyal readers are not here to share it with me, I’ve decided to start a regular section called “Seen in L.A.”

Every day I see something …. amusing. Or gruesome. Or fascinating. So every once in a while I’ll post a short list of recent observations of Los Angeles. Some of these things are just interesting, and some of them are quintessentially ‘L.A.’

This is the installment from the last week or so.

(note #2: all of these were observed within the city block of my place of business, generally on my walk to or from my car)

Seen in L.A.

An orange orange Vespa parked on the sidewalk.

A flock (gaggle?) of (presumably domesticated) geese roaming around the front yard of a $1 million (ish) house.

Big spike in visible Laker flags/banners/balloons after Game 3 win.

32-year-old grad student complaining about the annoying “20-somethings” while discussing the merits of “Texas Chain-Saw Massacre.”

A very tanned man talking about his orange and carrot juice that he has taken to drinking now that he’s back from Fiji.

2 homeless men lying on the sidewalk. Sleeping. In the middle of the afternoon. Completely across the sidewalk, so pedestrians had to practically walk in the gutter to get around them. And a security guard (from my building) walks up to them, appears to say nothing but look at them, and walk away.

An actor shopping at the Ralph’s on the corner that I frequent. Happily going about his business without anyone bothering him, staring or pointing.

A biker ‘flipping the bird’ to a car who turned left during a yellow light right in front of him. Of course disregarding the fact that he rode his bike through a yellow/red light.

A middle-aged, paunchy, balding (with a come-over) pasty white man, in tight black pants. And a white button-down shirt. Unbuttoned to his belt. Running for the bus.
