mid-year review : 2010 goals

Do you remember I gave myself a big ol’ year long to do list for 2010?
Well, now that it is already the middle of July (!!!) I thought I should probably look back and see if I’ve accomplished anything …. and remind myself what I still need to do for the rest of the year ….

Friends and family:

  • Joe and Katie’s wedding (August 6) – Um. It’s not August yet
  • Katie’s various bridal showers – done and done
  • host parties, holidays and get-togethers (assuming we are able to buy a house) – not buying a house this year, but we have had friends/family over SEVERAL times in the last few months since we got an apartment/couch/dining room table.
  • Invite friends/family on our little adventures/excursions – well, we definitely invited several people to go to Hearst Castle with us, but no one did. …
  • Remember/acknowledge as many birthdays as possible - I am so bad at this.

Organization and home:

  • Do more cleaning/chores/taking care of the home - (only Andrew can say if I succeed at this)
  • Start a home-manual (w/ details about our appliances, contact for companies we do business with and just an all-around go-to for day-to-day information – Not yet started. I definitely want to get this started before the year ends.

Environment:

  • Reuse and re-purpose – rather than just throwing away or giving away – We’re doing a lot of recycling…. I think this goal will be most useful when we buy a house and can actually get all of our stuff out of storage.
  • Implement some of these tips

Business (Teegan Photography):

  • Read at least 1 business/marketing book per month – I’ve been totally on top of this. Download my list so far.
  • Keep up on my business/marketing blogs that I read – mostly. But I keep finding more.
  • Narrow down the wedding/wedding photographer blogs to only include people who truly inspire me. – Done. There’s a lot of photographers that are good … and boring. Unfollowed.
  • Exhibit at at least 1 bridal expo – instead of this this year I attended a couple workshops. soo so fun.
  • Finalize product offerings – I *think* this is mostly set. I need to think on it a bit more
  • Put together promo video for the site – not yet
  • Do some just-for-fun shoots – one done, but I have 3 in my head.

Blog (Those Crazy Schuberts):

  • Continue to blog consistently Monday-Friday – actually Tues-Fri now
  • Find more ways to increase the SEO on the blog, increase readership and focus my story – more or less an ongoing project. I think I need to focus a bit more.
  • Add video (I think I’m going to get one of these cameras) – I don’t know if this is a goal any more…
  • Publish at least 2 free e-books - one published at Lemon and Raspberry on Better Photography. Did you see it?

Financial:

  • Tighten up our budget – doing better.
  • continue saving money for our new house, furniture, eventually-needed car, etc. - doing pretty well. We bought a couch/etc w/o going into debt
  • Open an IRA account (for me) – why can’t I remember to do this?
  • contribute to both my and Andrew’s IRA accounts
  • knock out some more student debt – little baby steps

Travel:

  • Hearst castle for my birthday (April 2-3) – so fun!
  • Mexico cruise for Katie’s bachelorette extravaganza (June 4-7) – also fun
  • Paso Robles to shoot a wedding (April 10-11) – also fun
  • Plan/book our vacation for 2011 (likely an Alaska cruise with Julie) – I think I need to start planning  this in Oct or so.
  • Maybe a Sunday trip to Santa Barbara with Daniel and Jenae – we still need to plan this
  • Maybe visit Jamie in San Diego – this would be end of August, probably for the sharks

Health:

  • Stop buying soda. - haha! no.
  • Shop seasonally at the farmers’ markets - I think we are going to do a version of this
  • Get my eyes checked – lazy

Just for me:

  • More Andrew. Less internet.
  • More crafting. Less internet.
  • continue learning about American history (currently on colonial/Revolutionary War era)
  • learn more about fashion photography
  • shoot at least 1 role of film
  • turn 28 years old (this one should be easy)

  • You’re so organized. Wow! Good luck on the household book. I’ve thought about that for a long time, and have just never gotten to it. When you get a house you’ll want to include suggested schedules for seasonal or other things to do around the house that don’t happen regularly, like changing air filters on the A/C or cleaning gutters, planting, etc.

Kevin says he wants us all to meet him in Ireland next year (he’ll help). Can you do 2 vacations in one year? I’ll let you know if I see any cruise deals for Alaska next year.

It was fun to see your place and hang out there. You have plenty of room for a good group of folks, which is so nice.

Wow. You are the most amazing 28-year old. I don’t think there is ever a dull moment in your brain.

  • That is correct, there is never a dull moment in your brain Amy! Hahahahahaahahahahaha, living with you is always exciting. I’m so proud of how much you want to accomplish.
