Hearst Castle – indoor pool – Friday

Our last stop before the buses picked us up to take us back down the hill to the Visitor’s Center was Hearst’s OTHER pool.

Who needs 2 pools?

W.R. Hearst, apparently.

His indoor pool lives underneath the tennis courts (look at the vintage outdoor lights at the top of the fence) … If you look on the ground, under the nets you see those squares? I believe those are skylights into the indoor pool room …

Down the stairs, past these big OLD windows … and the foliage …. For whatever reason, this little outdoor corner outside the pool really made me feel the AGE of the place. Something about the colors or architecture or SOMETHING about this little stairwell to the side of the tennis courts felt very 1930s to me.

And for the big finale ….

Love those lampposts …

gold in the tile …

Diving board!

P.S. Part of our Tour 1 ticket included a movie ticket to the 45 min movie about the history of the Castle (starting w/ W.R.’s childhood). Re-enactment + narration. I liked it. I learned a lot. Andrew slept through it.

  • I don’t really enjoy re-enactments in low budget documentaries I guess. Also, I snuck back after hours and swam in this pool
    it was spooky
