Tiny apartment

We’re signing a new lease on Friday.

More about that later.

But before we head out, I thought we could take a minute and look at the pros and cons of living in this tiny apartment.

PRO: Very low rent. Very. As in, we would be OK even if one of us lost our job.

CON: Rent has dropped even more since we moved in, so we’ve pretty much been paying more than market price the last few months.

PRO: Close to Andrew’s work

CON: Also very close to the main house and landlord. Where a non-stop barking dog lives. Non-stop. And a very loud 2-year-old.

PRO: Big windows (I love natural light) in the living area

CON: Living area = sleeping area, and 2 of the windows face east. Which means bright light in the mornings. Which would be fine if I could get up early.

PRO: If Andrew and I can get along in such a tiny tiny place for almost 2 years and not kill each other, we must be doing OK.

CON: We have so little space that when Andrew gets up before I do, the coffeemaker wakes me up. We need more than 1 room.

PRO: We have an excuse to eat out a lot

CON: We have to eat out a lot because the tiny little dorm fridge here was AWFUL. Nothing would freeze in the “freezer.” And in the fridge, on the SAME setting, the water and lettuce would freeze, and the milk and other dairy would go bad early.

PRO: Part of the included furniture was several tall bookcases.

CON: These bookcases were STILL not nearly enough large enough to hold our books, cds, records and other odds and ends. I miss my books.

PRO: All utilities included (from internet to TV to electricity)

CON: We have NO control over any air conditioning or heater settings. So we bought a floor fan. And a space heater.

So, needless to say, we are looking forward to a new place. A bigger apartment. Details to come.

In the meantime please be excited with us!

I am SOO much looking forward to having a real kitchen again. With a real fridge. And an oven so I can bake.

Andrew is most excited about getting a coat rack.

  • How exciting! Girl, I feel your pain. I’ve been living in a studio apartment for about 2 years now, and while it’s just me, it’s def too small. A bedroom would be nice…and cheaper rent ;-)

“There was a teeny tiny woman who lived in a teeny tiny house…” Do you know that children’s story? Has it really been almost 2 years!? I am being excited with you for your new apartment and looking forward to the details to come.

  • Amazing that it’s been almost 2 years. Time really flies. Your new 1 bedroom will be bigger than the first 2 bedroom apartment we had in SCV when you and Kevin were just little. I can’t wait to see it…and smell the cookies baking!
