More than a Game

14 February 2010 by Amy 3 Comments

I have never really played organized sports (in a league, or set team or anything) but …..

I love sports movies

I love basketball

and I love LeBron James

We watched the documentary More Than a Game the other night – the movieĀ  related to the LeBron James’ autobiography Shooting Stars.

So interesting. So great for the filmmakers how much early footage there is of LeBron and his team mates. So unbelievable how much early fame LeBron got. When he was in high school…

Of course, I cried.

I love that sports stories – sports stories like this one, or Rudy or Miracle or Glory Road or countless others – have that dramatic story structure that really gears up your emotions. That tragic flaw. That unforseen obstacle. That overcoming the negative voices within yourself. And finally that long-sought, hard earned victory. Even if it is just a high school game.

What’s your favorite sports movie? (I’m only a little embarrassed to admit I could watch Mighty Ducks over and over …. )

One thing about More Than a Game …

Makes me a little sad that LeBron James got all this amazing hype in high school – he was called the best high school player since …. anyone. Better than Kobe at that age. Could only be compared to Kareem Abdul Jabar. But now, after being in the NBA for a few years, people are jaded. Disappointed in him because he hasn’t won a championship yet.

Someday, when Andrew and I visit Cleveland – we’re going to go to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, and we’re going to see a Cleveland Cavaliers game.

And then we’re gonna hang out with LeBron James. Because he and I should be friends…..

Hopefully he’ll still be in Cleveland.

I am so the girl who lovvvves sport movies and will most assuredly cry (potentially loudly). That said, you will be rarely see me proactively watch a sporting event. I blame years and years of having to watch football in TX.
