Hann Christmas in Arizona

8 January 2010 by Amy 3 Comments

So  – the weekend after Christmas-proper, Andrew and I headed out to Arizona for Christmas with my family.

As we arrived on Saturday afternoon, we treated Saturday night as ‘Christmas Eve’ and Sunday morning as ‘Christmas morning.’

Does anyone else have Christmas Eve traditions?

In my family, we always open our annual ornament and new Christmas pajamas on Christmas Eve:

(I got a Big Ben ornament. Andrew got a record player)

‘Christmas morning’ (read: Sunday, 2 days after Christmas), we all stumbled out of bed and took our sweet time opening gifts.

There are only 5 of us, but it takes us HOURS on Christmas morning because my parents have always had the tradition of each person opening one gift at a time, so everyone can see what everyone else gets …

I thought I had lost these mustaches, so they didn’t go in the stockings like I planned. But they were found in time for a family picture before the sun set:

And finally, a family game of Shang-hai – one of the Hann-family specials.

Next year, I’m not sure what we’ll do since Christmas is on a Saturday, and I likely won’t be able to take any time off work.

But this year it was nice to stretch out the holiday a bit for a few extra days …

That was my favorite day of all the holidays – just us.

Maybe we can plan to rent a cabin up in the snow some year and do Christmas there. That would be awesome!
