I do find the L shape interesting . . . I can't remember any other Catholic church/mission being shaped like that. I lived in SLO for four years and only ONCE did I ever go to the "back" garden--I forgot how pretty it is. SLO is beautiful. That was one of my three reasons for going to school there (the other two reasons being it was "far enough, but not too far away from home" and "not too expensive." It was pretty cool too. They're all so unique. It would be hard to pick just one. Did you know that each one is supposed to be one day's walk from the next one?
