Immortal Jellyfish

Turritopsis Nutricula

The above image if of the jellyfish known as Turritopsis Nutricula.  I’ve never seen one of these, but I just ran across it on the internet and thought it was kind of amazing.  Turritopsis nutricula is a hydrozoan with a life cycle in which it reverts to the polyp stage after becoming sexually mature, indefinitely, unless it is killed.  It has the potential to live forever!  I love the deep depths of the sea and all the bizarre creatures that live there.  I would just suggest reading the Wikipedia article or this bit of news on this hydrozoan, since I have no first hand knowledge of it.

My favorite is the Deep Sea Anglerfish. You know, the one with the crazy teeth and the little dangling light to catch fish.

I also just love anything bioluminescent.
