Omigod, omigod you guys!
I love musicals. I love them. love them love them love them.
Love musicals.
So when Kaitlin called me and asked if I was interested in seeing Legally Blonde: The Musical (Julie’s treat), even though I had never seen the movie, didn’t know any of the music, and don’t really own any pink, I said “Heck yes!”
They met me at our house Saturday morning …. Andrew came with us and the 4 of us went to check out Kaitlin’s chosen wedding venue one last time (blog post to come) and go to lunch.
From there – on to Hollywood and the Pantages theatre Hollywood!
I love all the Hollywood stars …. so many great names honored around the Pantages (including Sammy Davis, Jr and Billy Joel). I chose not to look like a COMPLETE tourist, and only took one pic of the Hollywood stars – John Carradine who recently passed away …
(ETA: been informed this is not the just-died Carradine. I knew I should have taken a pic of Billy Joel’s star)
The Pantages is all gorgeous art-deco throughout …. I decided not to break the rules and take pics inside the theater itself, but you can get a sense of the whole theme just from the lobby …
The show was very good and soooo fun. It is not often Andrew and I can afford to go to a show where EVERYONE is talented …. so often we just go to community theater where there is at least one weak link that is distracting from the overall quality of the show.
But not at the Pantages.
Incidentally, if you are wondering what to get Andrew and I for Christmas, season tickets to the Pantages may be high on your list. Next year they’re doing ‘Stomp’ and ‘In the Heights’ and ‘Young Frankenstein’ ….. so exciting!
The show was VERY girly and pink … Very formulaic, which I’m sure comes from being based off a romantic comedy … and very dated. Jokes about Red bull and the like that make it unlikely it will be revived very soon. Maybe it is the kind of show that will be revived in 40 years (rather than 8 years) when people are feeling nostalgic for the early 2000s … ?
But it’s a super fun show. I love that the lead is female and all the songs are very catchy and make me want to sing and dance. Which is pretty much all I ask for in a musical.
sidenote: This now makes 3 broadway shows that I know of with ONLY female above-title leads. These are few and relatively new. To qualify, the show must have male characters (all female shows don’t count), but no male leads. The 3 I know of are ‘Wicked’, ‘Little Women’ and now ‘Legally Blonde’ …. any others I can’t remember??
Thanks Julie (and Kaitlin) for having this fantastic idea and taking me along with you …..
it was a very girly day for me, but I can’t say no to a musical ….
And now I need the soundtrack.
A couple more fun videos …

Im glad you came! I loved it!!! Its going to be in Orange county from the 8th-20th and I need to see a play for an art class….so I just might go see it again! Have a fabulous week, see you Sunday! XOXO
I’m totally jealous, it sounds like so much fun. I’m not really a musical kinda gal, but I looove the movie. I sorta went to law school because of it, sorta.
p.s. I hate to tell you, but it was actually David Carradine, John Carradine’s son, who recently passed away. John died in the 80s. sorry.
Yeah, I couldn’t say no to a musical either. I wish we were living there (or you here) so we could go to musicals all the time.
I miss you.
