A Simple and Wonderful Day Off

I usually try to plan a lot of tasks/stuff/activities on my days off (I usually get one a week, sometimes two).  Those tasks usually involve driving to SCV to see my family and do laundry.  I’ll try to get together with a friend, and spend time with the dogs just running around the backyard.  But it seems like I have very few days where I just stay home and read and relax (in my underwear/boxer briefs; well just stay home I guess is what I’m saying).  Today has so far been one of those perfect days with a combination of errands, activities and relaxation.  This is my second day off in 2 weeks, with a lot of 13 hour work days, so I’m pretty exhausted.  But today started with a pot of coffee (of course), some reading about Rome Rick Steves Style.  Then Amy and I headed to Target to look for a few international travel necessities, Barnes & Noble to pick up a gift for our favorite Italian girl then to the Stand for pastrami, beer and hotdogs (is it a great idea to drink beer before noon?)  At 12:30 Amy left for work and I put on some vinyl and sat down to finish reading Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close, which made me feel like one hundred dollars at the same time reminding me that I live constantly with heavy boots.  Now I’m going to read some more about Rome, schedule some blog posts and get ready to go see Robbie Fulks perform tonight at McCabe’s Guitar Shop in Santa Monica.  Hopefully I’ll be able to get some pictures of the show for a future blog post.  He is one of my all-time favorite musicians and I’ve been waiting years to see him perform.

This weekend Amy’s family is coming into town and we are going to go to Disneyland with her brother and parents.  Look for that blog post sometime soon.  Probably from Amy though, not from me.  I’m not really that great at writing down all the facts.  I get too frustrated and I lose my patience trying to remember everything.  Lazy.

Anyways, the weather is a bit warm, but other than that this is the perfect type of day off.  It will be much more fun when Amy and I own a home and we have days off together.  We can relax and garden and sit in the yard on cool evenings and have a cheap record player outside and dance as the sun goes down to our favorite songs and read out on the back porch….and then we’ll invite Robbie Fulks to come perform at our house and invite all our friends.
