Monoliths & Dimensions

sunn-o

A couple of weeks ago I went to see SUNN O))) in concert for the first time. It was the heaviest, loudest concert I’ve ever been to. So loud that my body literally shook from all the low end frequency that Greg Anderson and Stephen O’Malley emit from their incredible backline of 11 amps and 16 speaker cabinets (8 of those amps being Sunn O))) Model T’s). I had been looking forward to seeing them for quite a while because I’d read that it’s more of an experience in heaviness and mystery and doom than a concert. The venue was very small and had been built in 1914 I think and used to be either a church or a library. The only light came from one spotlight (with a red filter over the bulb) on the ground pointing up at the band and a bit of outside light coming in through the upper windows. Greg, Stephen and Steve Moore all wore their signature black cloaks and were shrouded in smoke from the smoke machine just off stage. Attila Csihar wore 2 different costumes….which you can see in the pictures below. It’s difficult to describe the power of this group if you’re not familiar with their music or show….simply amazing and heavy and beautiful and frightening. Thanks to Clap Your Mirror Say Yeah and El Macho Borracho [click links for larger images] for the Sunn Flickr pics.Attila Csihar (shroud)Greg AndersonStephen O'MalleyAttila Csihar (wood god)
