New (temporary) headquarters for Team Schubert

After our magical day in San Clemente, we went to bed early and were up around 5:30a on Sunday for moving.

Daniel, bless his heart, got up at the same time to help us. What a good brother.

I think he just was excited for the extra room. I think he has big plans to turn that ‘empty’ room into his shooting studio….

We had opened another (smaller) storage unit (in the same place – SCV – due to price) and rented a truck.

The plan was to go to the big storage unit, sort our belongings between new apt and new storage unit, load up the truck, stop by the Schuberts’ house, drop off a dresser they were going to store for us, pick up more boxes for the apt, and then head down to Tarzana …

Bright and early gazing at our piles and piles of STUFF.

Luckily, I was generally pretty good at labeling the boxes when I packed them up. …

(we even had some of Kevin’s stuff like this framed art:)

trash cans, christmas tree stand, free-standing george foreman …. that kind of stuff doesn’t stack real well.

Daniel and I discussed how this place would be fun for a photo shoot ….

I did the sorting, the boys did the moving.

(do those suitcases look familiar?)

Around 830a or so, Daniel and Andrew left to pick up the truck, and they got back around the same time Andrew’s parents and Jenae arrived to help load the truck …

I gotta say … Andy was REALLY chipper on Sunday. Like, unnaturally happy for someone who was helping someone else move.

I think he also is REALLY excited to have us out of there…

Little does he know he’s not getting his hands on that room. I have it on good authority that will be a guest room w/ a brand new comforter for the bed and everything….

stopped back off at the house.

Loaded up my truck (so I could get a head start). … loaded up Julie’s car w/ our hung-up clothes ….

Over the last few weeks, Andrew has been trying to get Hazel used to being out front w/o a leash. She’s been really good about just staying on the lawn – even playing/being chased really fast w/o leaving the lawn …

So we let her hang out front with everyone else … and she parked herself in the planter.

Julie and I headed over to the apt first because it still needed to be cleaned a bit.

The bad news is we have to sweep/mop clean ourselves before moving in.
The good news is we likely won’t have to worry about that when we leave and will probably get our whole security deposit back.

Julie (along with the others, too) was SUCH a big help.

Mom, it’s your turn to mop my floor when we buy a house. Mark your calendar for your vacation time.

For the most part, we just brought everything in, set it down and decided we would deal with it later …

Our sad sad bed. It was a hand-me-down when I moved to AZ in 2002. … and we still have it.

Our #1 purchase when we buy a house is a REAL grown-up bed. Bed frame and everything.

(that’s our ‘front’ door open. Studio apt, for real)

these rolls of toilet paper were all in the drawer of one of our dressers … nice that I didn’t have to go shopping RIGHT away …

After the truck(s) were unloaded and everything was in the apartment, it was almost 2p.

Lunch time

So, we went to Andrew’s work (less than 1 mile away now!) and bought everyone lunch.

moving-24

After lunch everyone left.

Andy and Julie went home. Daniel and Jenae went out.

Andrew and I returned the truck, made a quick run to the grocery store for coffee and toothpaste, and then back to our new home to unpack!

In spite of the 2x sweeping AND mopping before all the stuff got put in there, the floors were still SO dirty.

Oh well.

I think we’ll have to get down on our knees and scrub by hand to get it really clean….

I made sure I found the sheets and made the bed ASAP so we’d have some place decent to relax when we got tired of unpacking….

Unpacked books, and records, and clothes, and camera, and CDs, and food, and dishes, and the coffeemaker, etc …

I was wiped by about 6p – but Andrew kept going.

We treated ourselves to Menchie’s around 730p that night and went to bed EARLY.

{note: Some of you are going to complain that you didn’t get to see what the place even looks like. Rest assured that a future post or 2 are planned.}

Thank goodness for mothers and mothers-in-law! They are always the ones cleaning amongst the chaos of moving!

I noticed my handwriting on some of those boxes ;)

O.k now, let's not forget that Dad and I PAINTED your last apartment before you moved out. That's harder than mopping. But actually, I would LOVE to come and help with a move to the house so just let me know.

That picture that you said was Kevin's is actually mine. I got it from my boss when I worked at CalArts. It's signed by a few people who worked on that film. I would love to get it back. If you have time to get it, you can bring any of Kevin's stuff to our house when you come. I think you have his Christmas ornaments too (Erin says). We don't mind keeping them since we probably won't be moving for a while.

Your cabinets look nice in the new place. Can't wait to see the whole place inside and out.
