a necessary luxury

What is with all the hulla-balloo in the comments of yesterday’s post?

I just mentioned Andrew’s comment about showers in passing … just more proof that boy is weird.

But I guess not.

I’m sure there was a time in my childhood when I didn’t mind being dirty – but I don’t remember it. Not that I’m saying any of you like being dirty… I’m just saying I always take daily showers because otherwise I feel dirty.

Instead, my memory consists of DAILY showers.

When I was in high school (and before?) I would take a shower in my parents’ bathroom because the shower head/water pressure was just so much better than the other bathroom …. and I loved my showers.

In fact, the main reason I don’t really like camping is because I like being clean. I love my showers.

A year or 2 ago when we had no hot water for a few months I was MOST miserable and Andrew couldn’t really grasp how tortuous it was for me (I guess I see why, now)

He doesn’t really understand why I can’t go more than about 30 hours w/o a shower.

But I don’t care. I will always ALWAYS make time for a good shower. No question, my long, hot showers are my necessary luxury.

It’s not even just the needing to feel clean that makes me love my showers. I love the warm (read: HOT) water. I love the beating down on my neck and shoulders. I love massaging shampoo into my scalp. In fact, 9 times out of 10 – if I have a headache when I wake up, taking a nice long shower will make it go away…

That and sleeping 8+ hours each night are the only things that I will never give up w/o a fight.

It's not that I don't enjoy the shower. I agree with you about not liking to be dirty. I also refuse to camp. I don't know how you lived without hot water for months!

It's just that I have a million other things to do in a day that I don't like having to take the time it takes to shower, but on days when there's nothing to do, a nice long shower can be great. It's just too bad those days are few and long between.

yeah, I don't like to be dirty either. For me its more that I don't want to take the time to do my hair. When it was really long, it was a pain to get it dry too. I also don't like getting in and out of the shower when it's cold. Brrrrr. I hate that. But I also don't like it when my hair's dirty. So whatever. In a perfect world we'll all be clean all the time with no need for a shower unless we want one for fun. That's my vote.
