It’s summer time.
My 2nd summer back in California.
My 3rd summer without school to return to.
It’s very strange to spend the bulk of your life scheduled around the seasons, and then all of a sudden you don’t. Wait, I CAN take vacation in February? That’s different….
Although, of course, once I get in the groove of SoCal weddings, summer will be wedding season. Work season.
And I will HAVE to take vacation in February, when there will be less weddings.
How come I grew up here and I never heard the term ‘June gloom’? Have you? Know what I’m talking about?
Apparently the last week or so with the gorgeous overcast skies, the thick fluffy (grayish) clouds, the temperatures in the low 70s is “gloomy” …. Who knew?
My favorite part about summer, now that I live here (and not AZ), is the beach. The beach weather with the salty breeze and the lower temperatures.
My office is just down the street from Santa Monica beach. From our house, I drive up and over some hills and when I reach the other side it is beach weather.
I love it.
How did I ever live in Phoenix, Arizona for 6 years??

You were obviously not raised properly. Kristi and I have heard (and been using) the term "June gloom" since we first moved here over 26 years ago.
And we're with you – contrary to the definition, we LOVE the gloom. I actually wish all summer would be like that…but I think it's over now.
And to echo you: How did I live in Phoenix for 21 years?
Of course, when you have kids you'll be back to scheduling vacations around the school year…that is unless you home school. Not sure why you didn't hear June gloom. I'm sure we used it. Dad experienced it a lot in MDR at work. We live in Phoenix for other reasons besides the weather. The cost of living is a big plus. I love and miss you both (and the other Hanns that live there).
