England – Trafalgar Square – Apr 6

After ice cream in St. James park we really had to find a locksmith – which you’d think we’d be able to do in LONDON. … It is a major metropolitan city, right?

I don’t know where we walked – a big circle/square, even as far as Picadilly circus – and we found NO locksmiths and about 17 million menswear stores. Why Londoners need so many menswear stores in such a small radius, I have no idea.

So, finally, giving up – the plan was to split up.

Miranda had a rail pass, so she jumped on the Tube to a station she KNEW had a locksmith, and I walked all by myself back to Trafalgar square.

It was pretty awesome … how often are you going to walk around an international city alone? A cute boy stopped me to try to get me to donate or volunteer for some charity. I don’t even know. He didn’t get that far. Even though I was alone I was still a tourist and therefore couldn’t help him …

My view of St. Martin in the Field upon re-entering Trafalgar square:

There was an old man doing chalk art .. and a couple different street performers, too

I pretty much just sat on the steps (w/ a whole lot of other people) and people-watched. I’m pretty sure that is one of the main purposes of Trafalgar square, right?

Eventually (not too much later) Miranda found me — probably because of the green sweater and blue scarf. …. and we went into the National Gallery.

Which was ridiculously crowded. …. And interesting, but not especially …. London. Inside it was exactly the same as visiting the Getty – with the exception of the paintings displayed.
And since I don’t really know anything about art, it wasn’t all that different to me …

… just a thought, if you ever find yourself in Trafalgar Square, wondering if you should go to the Gallery…

Then a stop for dinner. … Just to be easy on our feet and our tired brains, we didn’t bother looking anywhere …

We just went to the cafe at the National Gallery … and I had a cheeseburger … no idea how I settled on that, but it was very good and the waitress was kind enough to offer ketchup for my fries (which they don’t really do in England)…
