England – St. Paul's Cathedral – Apr 4

[See Miranda's blog from Jan about St. Paul's as background and addtl interior images]

Saturday morning up bright and early to go to London!!
London!!

The plan was to go to the Tower of London first – and that opens at 930a – so we left the dorm a bit before 8am …

On the train to London …

The train goes Egham to Waterloo where we then get on the Tube to go around the city… In Waterloo station I was finally able to get coffee … mmm …. Unfortunately, because of work being done on the Tube we had to change our plans a bit.

Yet another example of my planning all for naught.

We switched it up – St. Paul’s first and then the Tower of London.

Miranda loves St. Paul’s … loves it. Her favorite, I think. She’s been 3x now .. When we got out of the Tube station, she took me around the backside of the building, her favorite view, and made me keep my eyes down until we got to the right spot.

Just beautiful. Christopher Wren is a genius.

I believe the Capital building in Washington D.C. was designed after St. Paul’s and the whole time I kept thinking about how much I love D.C. …

We went into the cathedral and explored the interior before heading up to the whispering gallery and stone gallery (that overlooks the city) … something like 300+ steps up.

Love ALL the pics! Especially the one of you and Miranda on the bench. It looks like something out of a movie. Love the combination you wore of the green sweater and blue scarf. Great for pictures! Hmmm, when you mention the 2012 Olympics, it makes me think that we should wait until after that to go to London. Then everything would be squeeky clean, shiny and spiffed up. But we could still go to Ireland before that.

I’m glad you’re home! I missed your posts.

Oh, and I love DC as well. Another on the list that I’d like to go back to soon. Could be because it’s very European looking.
