Time

Is it weird that I see time in a very … spatial way?

All in my head of course.

Example: I picture the months of a year in a circular/oval shape … kind of like around the edge of a placemat. And the change in seasons approximately coordinates with the corners. Approximately.

I see weeks in a row stretching out in front of me. Kind of like the boxes on a calendar. It’s why I can easily figure out what day of the week a certain date is.

Weekends are bigger than weekdays.

Or, when I think about history …. It’s all in a long line, kind of diagonal, with the late 20th century the biggest and most in focus. But, if I am reading about the 18th century, for example, that part becomes more in focus. But I still have the 19th or 20th centuries there – a little blurry – if I want to compare what I’m thinking/reading about to what came after.

Kind of like the decades are houses on a street and I’m at one end. If I want to think about the American Revolution, I walk down to that end of the street. That house is bigger and in focus, and I can look back up to where I’ve been. The decades and centuries that came after it.

Reading my dad’s history books in chronological order really helps this. Building on each other, and putting events in context.

The 17th century and earlier are still very blurry for me.

Anyway! Just some things I’ve been thinking about …

That’s really interesting! I’ve thought about that before, comparing how I think about things to the way other people do. I think of time in a very spatial way too, but still completely different from yours as far as how it’s set up. This is a very inspiring post, it makes me want to go write up a copy-cat post on my blog :)

Apparently most people associate each day of the week with a color.

Monday is light blue to me.

All very interesting. I’ve never thought of any of those things. Time is just a series of events, activities…which is probably why I remember events but not which one happened before or after the other one (since that’s not hugely important to me).

I’ve never thought of days of the week with a color.
