Christmas – 19 – Christmas baking

19 December 2008 by Amy 3 Comments

When I was growing up, I would bake ALL THE TIME. … ask to see my wrists/hands if you don’t believe. Covered w/ burn scars from the oven.

Haven’t baked in a long time, but this year Julie and I made it happen.

First though, is Andrew’s Amish friendship bread.

We got friendship bread from Maggie, and Andrew did all the hard work…

It turned out SO well. …

Then, last Saturday Julie and I spent a good part of the day baking cookies.

We made … a million batches of sugar cookies. Seriously. 400 billion cookies in the house …

Cookies from bought dough made into a cookie mold.
Cookies from bought dough cut into slices and baked.
Cookies from homemade shortening-based dough.
Cookies from homemade butter-based dough.

Plus a couple double batches in there …

Good grief.

Then, after being on my feet for a few hours, fighting with the sugar cookies (at least 1/2 of them broke), I gave myself a break and made my FAVORITE kind of cookies.

And the easiest …

Chocolate Oatmeal Refrigerator Cookies…

I had all these plans to make other stuff too. We were going to make fudge, and maybe polka-dot bars, and chocolate chip cookies maybe ..

Didn’t happen.

I had so much fun baking with you. We still have time to make fudge.
    I’m up for it.
I love the pictures you took.

I make my traditional gingerbread cut-out cookies every year… very time consuming… but very good.
But this year for the first time I used parchment paper to bake the cookies on and what a difference!
    Oh, the things we learn…
Hey, your pics made me think I was on the Pioneer Woman’s baking blog! Great job! I LOVE looking at baking and cooking photos!
