Have I blogged yet about Andrew’s list?
I keep telling Andrew to blog about it …but he’s not doing so well – the being-committed-to-his-blog thing.
So, here’s the thing.
Andrew is basically writing his own music/recording reference book.
For his own enjoyment.
That’s right.
He’s writing a reference book for fun.
And that, in a nutshell, is my darling husband.
This is the process:
He sits (usually on the bed, or in our little computer corner) with his laptop on his lap, a pile of records/cds/etc next to him, and about 7,000 word docs open on his desktop.
He goes through each album 1-by-1, reading all the liner notes, and entering the info on one of his many word docs (his lists).
Ex: on one album, he may enter the person/album info for the recording engineer, mixing engineer, producer, remaster-er, every musician, studios used, etc. Plus any other info that I’m not thinking of. Plus, for each song (as each song on the album may have different info).
He keeps these all alphabetized in his lists….
Here is what his desktop looks like when he’s got all the lists open:
He goes through his dad’s music, through his brother’s music, through some of the music that they have at work. He brings boxes full of his CDs from our storage unit. Partly to listen to, partly to record.
I believe his lists right now range from 20-50 pages each.
And I don’t think he has any intention to do anything with these lists…. although, if you have a question about the bass player on a certain record, or want to find out what albums were recorded at a certain studio – Andrew is your man.
Seriously, ask him about it. … cause I’m not really doing ‘the lists’ justice.
This is how I see him for big chunks of time:

I’m trying to compete with allmusic.com to have the most comprehensive list on earth. However, mine won’t have every release ever made……I keep thinking about applying for a job there though, since my list is almost mistake free and their website is mistake full.
I’m not a loser
I seriously love Andrew
andrew your a nut job but that’s what makes you so RAD. keep it up.
Aww I love it!
Andrew is into music trivia like Terry is into sports trivia. I seriously think he should contact allmusic.com and see if they want to hire him as an editor and fact checker. Have them pay for every error he finds (and corrects)…or just see if they want to buy all of his data. If he wanted to work for them, I’ll bet it’s something that he could do from home in his spare time.
OR he could create his own website in competition with theirs. That would be awesome! It’s totally doable.
I think our husbands would be BFFs.
Because mine likes to organize and for no apparent purpose other than to satisfy the OCD inside.
Loved this post. Thanks for pointing it out.
